Sound QI is pleased to begin 2026 with two international offerings of Sound QI's Practical Quantitative Interpretation (QI) course, delivered as part of Sound QI’s Global Insights Series. These upcoming sessions will be hosted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Perth, Australia, in partnership with trusted regional partners.

The Practical QI course is led by Laurie Weston, CEO of Sound QI, and is a three-day, hands-on program designed to support interpreters who want a clearer, more defensible understanding of quantitative interpretation workflows. Rather than focusing solely on outputs, the course emphasizes how QI decisions are made, how assumptions influence results, and how data quality and integration affect subsurface predictions. This approach reflects Sound QI’s core philosophy: that strong interpretation is grounded in understanding, transparency, and sound technical judgment.

About the Practical QI Course

Over three days, participants work through the full QI workflow in a structured, practical format. Topics include well and seismic conditioning, AVO analysis, inversion, and multi-attribute interpretation. The course combines instruction with applied examples and guided exercises using Sound QI’s unique interactive attribute interpretation software, Maestro, allowing participants to connect theory directly to real interpretation tasks.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the assumptions, inputs, and limitations behind a QI workflow

  • Ask stronger technical questions before and during QI projects

  • Use key QI products effectively, including rock-physics templates, impedance volumes, and AVO-derived attributes

  • Evaluate how data quality and interpretation choices influence reservoir predictions and risk

  • Integrate seismic, geological, petrophysical, and engineering inputs more accurately in exploration and development work

The Practical QI course is suited to geophysicists, geologists, petrophysicists, and other professionals involved in subsurface technical interpretation who want a deeper, applied understanding of quantitative interpretation.

A Globally Delivered Program

The Practical QI course has been delivered across multiple continents and in a variety of formats. In addition to being taught to a range of Sound QI partners and clients, the course has also been available online through Saga Wisdom, making it accessible to a global audience.

While these options provide valuable flexibility, in-person delivery remains the preferred way to experience the course. The opportunity to work through concepts alongside peers, engage in live discussion, and learn from the perspectives and questions of fellow participants adds depth that is difficult to replicate in a virtual setting. We are pleased to offer in-person sessions in Kuala Lumpur and Perth in early 2026, creating space for shared learning and meaningful technical exchange.
